MBCT in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

Currently the OMC provides 3 Mindfulness (MBCT) 8 week classes per year for the NHS Mental Health Trust. Each class can take 25 participants. Those who come to the classes are referred by their GPs for help with a range of difficulties, in the main re-current depression (as recommended by NICE) and anxiety disorders.

How to be referred…

People need to be referred by their GP to Psychological Services, (May Davidson Building, Warneford Hospital, Oxford OX3 7JX) who then make a clinical assessment of the potentially most helpful psychological intervention for the person. If MBCT is the preferred option, the person will then be referred to the Oxford Mindfulness Centre and put on our waiting list for the next course. (Professionals, please enter on PCIS in ‘Mindfulness Assessment Clinic’).

Each person will then be contacted by us and offered a one-to-one session with the class teacher, prior to the course starting. This is a chance to talk through what to expect from the classes, a description of the overall approach and to talk through any particular areas of challenge.

Marie Johansson  is an MBCT Teacher and Co-ordinator of the NHS classes and can be contacted for further information using the form below or by telephoning 01865-613152.

In Buckinghamshire, MBCT classes are provided as part of Psychological Services at the Tindal Centre in Aylesbury and at Amersham Hospital. Patients need to be referred to Psychological Services either in Aylesbury or Amersham and will then be assessed to determine which psychological therapy, including MBCT, would be most appropriate to meet their needs.
