Intensive Residentials (retreats)

Intensive Silent Practice residential retreats are often described as fundamental to the professional and personal development of MBCT teachers. Regular attendance is also widely believed to be essential for continuing professional development for mindfulness teachers.

Intensive Foundational Training in teaching MBCT –  7 day Residential

This intensive 7-day training, held in a retreat-like environment, provides participants who have met all the prerequisites for training to be a teacher with an opportunity to directly experience the 8-session programme of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and learn about the theoretical underpinnings of MBCT and its structure and sequence. You will practise teaching elements of MBCT to one another in pairs, with supervision and feedback from the instructors and peers. There will be extensive periods of silence throughout the 7 days.

The training is an introduction to teaching MBCT, and a platform for developing further teaching skills through your apprenticeship.

Intensive Silent Practice – 7 day Residential

The OMC runs a 7 day Silent Practice residential every two years. Participating in an extended silent retreat is an invaluable way of deepening the personal practice of mindfulness meditation, and is viewed as an indispensable step to becoming an instructor in mindfulness-based approaches, including both Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

Regular mindfulness practice, supported by a good teacher is essential. Good residential retreat centres provide a containing space to let go of all the have to do’s of life and drop more deeply into practice, so we can do the work of investigating the mind, knowing the mind, transforming the mind and experiencing first-hand the challenges and joys of this work. Daily and sustained practice builds capacity and confidence.

The next available date is 1st – 8th June 2018 – further details and venue will follow.
