About the course

Our ‘Mindfulness: Teaching in the Workplace’ specialist programme offers experienced mindfulness teachers the opportunity to develop skills, competencies and confidence to teach mindfulness in a variety of different workplace settings, build your business in this area, and receive a ‘Readiness to Teach in the Workplace’ certificate from Oxford Mindfulness.

Gain an understanding of:

  • How mindfulness training in the workplace has evolved in recent years and the implications for bringing mindfulness training to large and small organisations
  • How you can find your niche and leverage your existing network and social media platforms to reach more workplace clients
  • What you need to consider when developing an offering that resonates with organisations
  • How you can skilfully navigate workplace demands whilst keeping the integrity of the underlying mindfulness teachings
  • How the latest research and science can help you successfully position and embed mindfulness in the workplace

Short presentations on relevant theories and ideas are blended with opportunities for hands-on practice, experiential learning and real-world applications through case study examples and practical assignments.

The sessions take place on Friday mornings over 12 sessions, comprising two teaching blocks.

“Highly recommend! A wonderfully thorough and practical course with brilliant and supportive teachers. The course materials are an invaluable resource that I’ll be referring back to for many years to come.“

What to expect on this course

This course is divided into two teaching blocks, designed to develop the basic and advanced skills needed to bring mindfulness to workplaces. The teaching blocks are based on a client case study which makes it possible to practise common workplace scenarios, take part in simulations, role-plays and deliver teach-backs in small groups.

Both teaching blocks consist of 6 half-day sessions, each taught on a morning and lasting 4.5 hours, including scheduled breaks. You should also allow 2 to 3 hours for homework and preparation in-between sessions.

Core themes include:

Teaching block 1

  1. Understanding the evolving workplace context
  2. Working effectively with limiting beliefs
  3. Holding client conversations
  4. Teaching methods for introductory sessions
  5. Unique positioning: finding your niche
  6. Building your brand and presence

Teaching block 2:

  1. Research and Evaluation
  2. Applied Teaching Methods – Adapting curricula to client needs
  3. Applied teaching methods: mindfulness for leaders and teams
  4. Developing your workplace-centric offering
  5. Inquiry in the workplace
  6. Embedding mindfulness
  7. Expanding Visibility and Exposure

The course is made up of a mix of interactive presentations, individual reflection, group work, class interaction and experiential exercises designed to get you thinking and involved in the learning process.

There are two assignments to be completed, designed to support you to develop your skills in your particular area:

  • Assignment 1: Marketing – you’ll build your profile and client base by implementing the personal marketing strategy and plan you developed during Teaching Block 1
  • Assignment 2: Teaching – you’ll identify a real-world client and offer an introductory session tailored to this client, which includes scoping, planning and teaching.

You’ll have ongoing support and guidance via virtual check-in sessions, a library of materials, teamworking and networking, virtual groups (you’re encouraged and supported to set up virtual networks of fellow trainees with similar interests or focus areas) and optional mentoring sessions.
