I’m an associate teacher with Oxford Mindfulness and on the UK register of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT teachers). I completed the master’s degree in MBCT at Oxford University in 2014. I worked as a psychological therapist for over twenty years in an NHS primary care context and was also a teacher of MBCT based courses in the NHS. I’ve been an accredited member of the BABCP, UKCP & the BACP. I worked as a student counsellor in the London School of Economics & Political Science for nine years. I’ve co-authored some books on the theory and practice of therapy.
Having taught both the MBCT for Depression (MBCT-D) and MBCT for Life (MBCT-L) programmes I have a special interest in encouraging those who have completed an 8-week MBCT based course and who want to sustain and deepen their practice. In this regard, I’ve taught the MBCT-Taking it Further (TiF) course and the Deepening-Mindfulness programme.
In 2021, I had the opportunity to be one of the teachers that delivered the TiF course for MBCT and MBSR graduates within the randomised control trial that showed the intervention produced a sustained mental health benefit (Maloney S, Montero-Marin, Kuyken W. 2024).
In 2023-24 I helped to provide a pilot four-week intervention for those who had already completed the MBCT-D programme, as part of a proposed major trial on Optimising MBCT Maintenance (the OMM Trial). This collaboration between UCSF (Hecht R) and Oxford University (Kuyken W) is seeking NIH funding for a large-scale RCT evaluation.
As a mentor for trainee teachers, I very much enjoy sharing an individual space to process course learning and to enhance skill development.
“I’m fortunate to be associated with an organisation that is dedicated to improving and enhancing human flourishing and is at the leading edge of mindfulness research and training. I value working alongside inspiring colleagues and availing of the opportunities for on-going training provided by Oxford Mindfulness to enhance my own learning, to enrich my personal practice and to improve the quality of my teaching.“
