I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Clinical Health Psychology based at St Mary’s Hospital but working across all the London hospitals of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT). I have been teaching MBCT and MBCT-based courses for people with sexual function and sexuality concerns, and also for people with long-term physical health difficulties since 2005. I have taught Mindfulness for Life courses for NHS and Local Authority staff, both to help with the stresses brought about by the Grenfell Fire, and by Covid, and NHS stressors generally and have created materials especially geared to staff in ICU settings. I have supervised IAPT practitioners and other psychologists and taught and supervised sex therapists to use mindfulness-based interventions in their work with individuals as well as group work. I am interested in the wide dissemination of Mindfulness, to people of every background, age, sexuality and mind-set. I believe that Mindfulness allows us to access the whole of our mind-body experience and that the learning and the practice, while sometimes painful, allows us to access the sweet centre of our lives and our relationships. I try in all my work to understand what people need most and to offer on what I have learnt, with tenderness and a light spirit.
