About the course

Our Train to Teach ‘Introducing Mindfulness’ (IM) is a 10-day mindfulness teacher training course providing you with the skills you need to teach an introductory mindfulness course and to present “drop in” sessions in a variety of contexts.

It includes:

  • Full training to teach the Introducing Mindfulness (IM) 3-session course
  • Follow-up supervision sessions
  • A post-training certification process to support your application for a ‘Trained to Introduce Mindfulness’ certificate

It’s for you if you’d like to skilfully introduce mindfulness, but not teach a full 8-week course.

Following this training, you’re advised to apply for a Trained to Introduce Mindfulness Certificate confirming your readiness to deliver this course. Your supervisor will be asked to confirm your readiness to deliver the Introducing Mindfulness curriculum. Applying for this Certificate is included in the course fee.

On this course you’ll learn:

  • About the background and rationale for the IM curriculum
  • The structure and sequence of this curriculum
  • How to facilitate the key practices and exercises that are part of this curriculum
  • The possibilities for delivering this curriculum in a variety of settings
  • The similarities and differences between this curriculum and other mindfulness-based courses

You’ll be provided with curriculum materials and handouts for teaching the course.

Please note: This curriculum is intended to be delivered to adults over 18 years of age.

It provides you with the required skills to introduce mindfulness. If you’d like to teach 8-week mindfulness courses, such as Mindfulness for Life (MBCT-L), please see information on our 12-month teacher training. This includes training to teach at least 3 different curricula, including the 3-session Introducing Mindfulness (IM course).

If you’re enrolled in our 12-month teacher training, this training is already included in the programme.

“A big thanks for the training… I love the way you teach, with excellent listening skills, patience and modesty – a real example for me. I feel completely set up to go out and teach the course now.“

What to expect on this course

You’ll be trained to deliver Introducing Mindfulness (IM) and explore the key intentions, structure and outline of the course. There’ll be discussions about where the IM course sits within the scope of broader mindfulness field – the similarities, differences, and any special considerations needed when offering shorter sessions to work colleagues, or other communities within which you intend to offer the 3-session course.

Over the course of the 10-day training you’ll:

  • Train to deliver the 3-session Introducing Mindfulness (IM) curriculum, which offers a brief taste of mindfulness practice, skills and theory in a format intended to be accessible to anyone new to mindfulness. Read more about the course.
  • Explore how to implement mindfulness in your context, including practices that may be useful for ‘taster’ sessions, ‘drop-ins’, follow-on practice sessions, etc.

At the end of the 10-day training, you’ll attend a group mentoring session on the supervision and certification process. You’ll then independently organise to teach the Introducing Mindfulness (IM) 3-session course to two groups of participants.

Your trainer will provide 3 x 30-minute supervision sessions while you offer these courses:

  • 1 supervision session before the first course,
  • 1 session in-between courses, and
  • 1 session after the end of the second course.

Please allow 1 hour for daily home practice and 1-2 hours for reading and preparation in between each training day.

What you can do after this course

Once you’ve taught your two courses, you can then apply for a ‘Trained to Introduce Mindfulness’ certificate.

We’ll ask your supervisor to confirm your readiness to deliver the Introducing Mindfulness (IM) course. Applying for this certificate is included in the course fee.

Full course materials and handouts will be provided to enable you to teach the course plus additional practices that may be useful for ‘taster’ sessions, ‘drop-ins’, follow-on practice sessions, etc.
