Community has always sat at the heart of our work. Mindfulness is not only something we practise individually. It grows through dialogue, shared reflection, and the sense of being in conversation with others who care deeply about this field.
This January, we are delighted to be launching a new monthly online series, Between the Lines. The intention is simple and heartfelt: to strengthen connection and to create a thoughtful, welcoming space for engaging with written works that have shaped and influenced mindfulness based approaches.
Reading books, papers, and articles in this field is often a solitary experience. We do it alone, in quiet moments, forming questions, reactions, and reflections that rarely get the chance to be shared. Between the Lines is designed to offer that opportunity. A shared space to explore ideas together, reflect on what resonates, and, importantly, meet the author.
We underline sentences, pause at certain passages, feel challenged, reassured, or unsettled, and sometimes carry questions that never quite find a place to land
How it works
Each month, we will focus on a single resource that has made a meaningful contribution to the field. We are inviting authors whose work has helped shape mindfulness based thinking and practice, creating an opportunity for their writing to be explored together as a community and then brought into live conversation with them.
Each featured resource will be explored across two online sessions of around 45 minutes each.
The first session each month will be a facilitated community conversation, hosted by a member of the Oxford Mindfulness team. Participants will be invited into small group and whole group dialogue to explore what they found interesting, challenging, moving, or thought provoking in the text. This is not about expertise or right answers, but about engagement and shared curiosity. Questions and themes emerging from this session will be carefully gathered.
The second monthly session will be a live conversation with the author. An Oxford Mindfulness host will introduce the session and bring forward the collated questions and themes from the community, allowing space to explore them in more depth. These questions will be shared with the author in advance, offering time to notice patterns and reflect on what has emerged. If time allows, the conversation will also be opened to participants to ask further questions or explore a theme together more fully.
An opportunity to meet as a community, discuss in small groups. Then put your thoughts, questions and comments to the authors
A place of belonging
Between the Lines is an offering rooted in connection. Think book club energy, with the rare opportunity to ask the author questions directly or share reflections with them. It is about chatting and reflecting with one another, and remembering that mindfulness continues to evolve through relationship, dialogue, and shared inquiry.
We hope this series feels like a place to belong. A place to think and share together. And a space where the lines between reader, practitioner, teacher, and author can be explored, with knowledge, community, and connection strengthened along the way.
“Think book club energy, with the rare opportunity to ask the author questions directly or share reflections with them!”
